#MapAPaddle

The photos below were produced to help Made With Map launch #MapAPaddle - a hashtag board and "collection of water excursions on placid lakes to crazy rapids by independent mappers paddling their own outrigger." Below each photo is a short description of the paddle location.

Point Doughty, located on the northern coast of Orcas Island, is one of the few public parks made accessible only by boat. With panoramic views stretching from Turtleback Mountain to Mt. Baker, Point Doughty is host to one of the most breathtaking vistas in the area. Depending on where you launch, you can expect the paddle to take 2-3 hours round trip. This estimation may be a bit fast depending on many stops you make to observe the seals and porpoises passing.

Sucia Island is one of the 743 islands in the San Juan archipelago. Unlike the main islands, there are no stores and no public transportation to the isle. However, Sucia is developed in other areas. Their campsites and hiking trails are well maintained and make Sucia a top destination for those trying to "getaway."

Cascade Lake, on the Eastern side of the Orcas Island in Moran State Park, is exceptionally calm in the morning, making it the perfect spot for an early paddle. Interested in making this your backyard for the night? Camping is made easily available around the lake allowing more time to indulge in the other lakeside activities such as hiking and fishing.
